I decided it was time to make some tweaks to my blog today and poked around in my WordPress dashboard to make the changes when I clicked on something, I have no idea what it was, that erased every post and page from my blog. It was as if someone came by with a magic eraser and said, hmmm, let’s delete all of Kerie’s content today! I refreshed my blog like a mad-woman for about 15 minutes, figuring that it was some glitch that would work itself out. All that was left was my design and sidebars – that was it!!! It soon dawned on me that I either had to re-create my entire blog, which I was not looking forward to doing, or figure out a way to get all of my content back. That’s when I remembered this little plugin that I installed a few months ago…
If you have a blog and do not have this plugin, WordPress Database Backup, then I highly suggest that you install it, for your own peace of mind. You see, what this plugin does is send me an email every week with a backup of my blog database. I’ve been collecting the backups in my email inbox and never had to use it until today. I logged into my email inbox, retrieved the most recent database backup version and completed the following steps:
- Login to CPanel (I use HostGator – I don’t know if this will work unless you’re using a hosting account that has a CPanel)
- Login to phpMyAdmin
- Click databases to select the database that you will be importing your data into.
- Depending on your setup, you will see either a list of tables already inside that database or a screen that says no tables exist.
- Click the Import tab
- Click Browse. Locate the backup file stored on your computer. Save it from your email to your computer.
- Make sure the SQL radio button is checked.
- Click the Go button.
I crossed my fingers when completing these steps and am proud to say that it worked!
My blog is back up and running and I am a happy camper!
