If we are to be conscious of the power of the words we desire to use, then it is imperative for us to look at what the word ‘fake’ really means. To fake something means to deceive, trick, conceal and pretend. So, then why would such a negative term end up delivered from the mouths of those who should know better? I would much rather hear the phrase, “Take action until you make it” and will of course advocate that to anyone I come in contact with.
The honest reality is that 95% of people who begin a home busines in MLM fail at it. Reasonable explanations for the staggering statistic vary. It could be that some people fail due to a lack of monetary funds to sustain particular compensation plan eligibility requirements. Others might be unsuccessful because of a lack of real marketing training, thinking that simply making a list of family and friends, asking for referrals, passing out flyers or buying expensive leads is the best way to build their home business. The truth is that for most entrepreneurs, it isn’t. It seems that most people do not succeed at MLM due to the fact that they do not know the vital principle of marketing, which is the concept of branding. Instead of studying how successful businesses brand themselves, thereby modeling their marketing efforts in a similar fashion (within a budget, of course), they loose themselves in a somewhat backwards hustle of networking. Whether it’s just retailing products to customers, recruiting ‘business builders’ or a combination of the two, following a formula for branding oneself is truly the most effective way for reaching long-term success in MLM.
Take a moment to think of the top leaders in either a specific MLM company or in MLM in general. Notice the similarities among the individuals that have achieved top levels of success in their respective companies. Many may have their own replicated team websites (sometimes equipped with lead capture pages, email autoresponders, among other bells & whistles), while others may have gained popularity due to having years of experience as a leader in a particular company. Well, have you ever stopped to wonder what they know that you don’t know or have you been so engaged with peddling products and “Faking it until you make it?” If you are serious about creating a successfully rewarding home-based MLM business, then it may be time for you to begin to get sincere about learning the art of marketing, in addition to your recruiting, training and promoting.
Now, there is a difference between branding yourself and branding the company that you have chosen to be associated with. It is the duty of the company’s marketing team to brand the image of the company. It is your responsibility to brand the way you are seen. Once people settle on whether or not they like you, they’re more open to learning more about what you have to offer (i.e. your company). This seems unknown to most Network Marketers, which is why 95% of them end up lost in the shuffle of MLM attrition.
It is believed that people marketing themselves efficiently in Network Marketing online or offline understand how to establish relationships with prospects and creating value prior to exposing them to a business opportunity. It’s not too late for anyone who wants success in this industry to reach it. The questions they must address are whether or not they’re indeed leaders and if they’re “Faking it until they make it.” People don’t have to arrive at the top rank of an organization to be considered a leader – they must simply elect to take on the role, then educate and brand themselves appropriately. People bond with people first, then companies. Companies come and go, but if prospects are sold on someone’s leadership skills, they will be dedicated followers of the individual as a result of the relationship they developed to their brand.
To the top,
